Visit to wentworth woodhouse
may 1st 2024
Wentworth Woodhouse is a Grade 1 listed country house in the village of Wentworth near Rotherham. The building has more than 300 rooms and is surrounded by a 180-acre park. The house was built in 1693 by the Marquess of Rockingham and was later inherited by the Earls Fitzwilliam until 1989. It now belongs to the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust. It has had a very chequered history some of which has been documented in Black Diamonds by Catherine Bailey.
The cost of the visit for a 70-minute guided tour of the house is £17.50 after which members may revisit any part of the house and gardens until the house closes. There is a tearoom where members can get tea, coffee, cake or lunch, the cost of which is not included in the cost of the visit.
The house is an easy drive being just off the M1 (post code S62 7QT) and parking is generous, with a minibus shuttle from the car park to the house for anyone who doesn’t wish to walk the short distance to the house.
We will meet at the house at 10.15 for a 10.30 start to the tour. However, the house opens at 10.00 so there will be time to have coffee or tea before the tour.
Tickets can be booked via the Contacts page
