We enjoyed a very special Study Day in February, when Nigel Bates, who was for 17 years Principal Percussionist with the ROH orchestra, spoke on 'The Royal Opera House: an inside view.' It was an expanded version of his lecture, 'Tantrums and Tiaras' and included several performance clips.
After a very enjoyable lunch we heard a second talk about the resident companies, the Royal Opera, the Royal Ballet and the ROH orchestra. This was a fascinating 'insider's' view of the opera house and all the people who work together to create the world class performances it is known for.
Many thanks to everyone who prepared the hall and the lunch and especially to Caroline Munro
and Gill Williams who made all the arrangements for this study day.
