Visits 2019
Two visits have been planned for this season. Firstly, on March 27th we visited St Mary's Church, Marston-on-Dove. This fine old church, with a 13th century chancel and the oldest bell in Derbyshire, cast in 1366, has recently undergone a major conservation programme, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This was an opportunity to enjoy the church and learn about what has been involved in the conservation. Our thanks to Una and Piet Walton Knight for a really interesting and enjoyable day.
The second visit on June 5th is to Staunton Harold, where we will visit the Georgian house, once home to the Shirley family, who became Earls Ferrers. Tours of the house can only be made as part of an organised group. We will also visit the fine 17th century estate church.
