Saltire -June 6th 2018
Saltaire is a Victorian model village and World Heritage site in Shipley, near Bradford, in West Yorkshire. It was built by Bradford mill owner Sir Titus Salt to house the workers from his nearby mill, Salts Mill. The mill dates from 1853 and although the village was completed 20 years later it provided good quality housing, schools, shops, churches, hospital and park. It did not provide a pub or a pawn shop.
Our visit comprised a guided walk around Saltaire, lunch in Salts Mill and a guided tour of their extensive collection of Hockney paintings in the 1853 gallery.
